The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) in partnership with leading global professional services company Accenture, launched last year, an initiative targeted at the fintech sector. The initiative invites African startups to apply. Called the Fintech Hive at DIFC, it is a Dubai-based programme that wants to bridge the gaps between innovative entrepreneurs and financial industry giants.
The accelerator program is targeting startups from Africa, the Middle East and South Asia region. Asides just fintech, Fintech Hive has this year, expanded its scope to include insurtech. Islamic finance and regulatory technology solutions are also to be considered.
It is a 12 week program which would include mentorship and networking. And requires that all participating financial institutions and insurance companies to ideate, collaborate and partner with startups during its course.
Raja Al Mazrouei, who is executive vice president of Fintech Hive at DIFC says that, “As Fintech continues to be a game-changer for the financial services industry, nurturing innovative talent is a fundamental priority because of the immense benefits it brings to the economy and society,”
“By connecting innovators in financial services technology with the banks, financial institutions and service providers, we are providing a world-class platform to develop solutions that meet the specific needs of, and address the challenges faced in, the region.”
FinTech Hive 2018 would start on 4th September and would come to an end with an investor day later in the year. Up to 10 participants will present their solutions to an audience of venture capitalists and financial industry executives.
