Using ICT for social good? Apply for 2018 ITU Telecoms World awards

The annual Telecom World Awards, 2018 edition has been opened up for applications. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has put together the ITU awards in a bid to acknowledge the best innovative initiatives around the world employing ICTs for social good. It isn’t alien to us how social entrepreneurs are to our ecosystem.

Launched in 2015, The ITU Telecom World Awards has its focus on entrepreneurs; small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large industry players for creative and productive use of ICTs for social good. In addition, it allows the exchange of knowledge for far better operations, helps to mobilize investments, encourages partnerships, provides a networking platform and create new business opportunities.

 

Entrants from the following categories are allowed:

Global Corporate Awards: This award is for the most promising innovative solutions with social impact within large companies. It comes in two categories – sustainable development and smart emerging technologies.

Host Country SME Award: For the best and most innovative SME or solution from the Host Country.

Global SME Award: For the most promising solutions from SMEs making innovative use of ICTs for social impact, in a number of different categories.

Government Award: For the National Pavilion at ITU Telecom Word 2018 with the most promising innovative SMEs present at the event, entering the Global SME Award.

Deadline for submission of applications is slated for 3rd August, 2018. Applications will be sifted through by a jury of experts when they pitch their solutions at the ITU Telecom world 2018. Winners would be announced by the Secretary-General of ITU, Houlin Zhao during the final event taking place from 10th to 13th September, 2018.
