Data science and Artificial intelligence are two of the many parts of technology that are making waves currently. Those two aspects of tech (including IoT) are said to soon take over the world as a new wave sweeps through.
It is therefore, understandable that even Nigeria as a country is keying into the wave. Even if a report says there would be a job deficit in the data science sector in the U.S (in some years to come), a lot more people are dabbling into the field showing keen interest to learn.
On the back of this, an AI Hub & dedicated Data Science Community is slated to open on Friday 8th June, 2018 at the University of Lagos. This was announced via the twitter platform of Data Science Nigeria, mentioning the Vice Chancelor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe and an esteemed advisor, Dr Uyi Stewart as supporters. The Chief Data Scientist, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle, USA made this known.
It is very encouraging that hubs and communities like this are springing up around the country. It is also in this same vein we reported the launch of a blockchain hub by Paxful in Lagos. We think it goes well to show how well Nigeria is rooted in the new waves sweeping around. More hubs like this should come up. And to be clear, this is the first Artificial Intelligence and Data Science hub in Nigeria.
